"Winter's Edge" features quite a special blend of old and new stylistic elements. On the one hand we find as many instrumental and atmospheric passages as seldom before. On the other hand bass player Dennis Sturm, who had joined the band for the 2002 album "Leap Into Fall" had become much more important for the band and provided a stronger backbone for the music.
The music is not as linear as on the predecessor Leap into Fall. A less austere, more open structure offers more space for free and improvised passages and makes the album seem very organic and coherent. Not as “proggy“ as the predecessor (and the albums to come) the music on Winter’s Edge is probably best called Modern Artrock.

The album's artwork was created by the renowned German artist Oliver Schollenberger, using a series of his paintings inspired by the music of Winter’s Edge.
